The Overtones

It’s been over a decade since we first heard the talents of vocal group The Overtones as they came to the public’s attention on the X Factor. There was an outcry as the four piece (originally known as Lexi Joe) didn’t make it to the live shows. In 2019 another former X Factor contestant was recruited in the form of Jay James (replacing Timmy Matley, who had decided to leave to pursue a solo career) and the rest, as they say, is history.

It’s clear from the very start of the show that Mark Franks, Darren Everest, Jay James, and Mike Crawshaw are talented in the vocal department, but these guys would give younger boy bands a run for their money. They have the moves, the snazzy suits, the cheeky charm, and a fair amount of pizzazz too!

There are elements of the night that give the four piece a resemblance of the Four Seasons, but these are the equivalent of the Jersey Boys for the Noughties!

From I’m Still Standing to Say A Little Prayer, the audience were on their feet, clapping and singing along and generally just having a really great time!

The groups version of Walking In The Air was stunning, displaying their harmonies perfectly, the Christmas classic was barely recognisable. Following on from that was 500 Miles, typically known to be sung by The Proclaimers, the boys put their own twist on it, and it was delightful.

Of course, this was a Christmas show, so songs such as Santa Claus Is Coming To Town soon followed. The night seemed to end much too soon; the audience could certainly have stayed for more.

They were joined on stage by Tom Ball (first seen competing on Britain’s Got Talent in 2022) who had already shown his vocal skills as support earlier in the evening with songs such as You’re Love Keeps Lifting Me Higher and Higher and I Still Haven’t Found What I’m Looking For. His performance of Bring Him Home from Les Miserables was hauntingly beautiful and appears on his 2024 album Curtain Call (love the name!).

It's sad to say that this was the groups last stop on their current tour, but they’ll soon be back with two tours schedules for 2025 and a Christmas EP out now. Details here: https://theovertones.tv/

Tom Ball will also be touring in 2025. Details here: https://officialtomball.com/

An outstanding night of entertainment from The Overtones. We already can’t wait for the next tour!
