As you embark on a brand-new West End transfer for The Great British Bake Off Musical, what can we expect that perhaps differs from the Everyman Theatre show?
Well we have three new stunning cast members joining us in the west end, we have a new song and a few small script changes, on a whole it’s the same show just sprinkled with a bit of icing sugar for the west end tent.
You are reprising your role as Jim, one half of the dynamic presenting duo alongside Zoe Birkett. Do you have a favourite scene together?
The prologue has to be my favourite, I can’t say anything about it as I don’t want to give it away, but it’s bonkers and brilliant. Zoe is fantastic and we bounce off each other so well, she’s the best.
Why do you think The Great British Bake Off Musical was so well received by the Cheltenham audiences?
Who doesn’t love bake off? It just works so well on stage. The audiences became so invested in the show, especially with the contestants, the songs are so catchy and the script is SO funny. You can’t help but love it.
As well as your stage work you appeared on The Circle for Channel 4 and more recently starred in ‘Christmas on Mistletoe Farm’. Do you have any preference between stage work and TV work?
It was my very first film I’ve done and it was such an incredible experience. I loved every second I learnt so much and would love to do more, theatre will always be my happy place though.
Do you remember where your love for performing came from and what was your first professional job?
When I was 9 I played Jacob Marley in Scrooge and as soon as I put those shackles on like a feather boa I just knew I wanted to do it forever. My first professional job was Made In Dagenham in the West End in 2014, I made friends for life and had the most amazing time doing it.
As I know you have a love for all things Disney, is there any Disney character that you would love to play one day?
URSULA THE SEA WITCH…or Pumba.
Which musical theatre song sums you up as a person?
Food Glorious Food - Oliver
What has been your favourite role to play during your career to date?
I loved playing Uncle Fester in the Addams Family tour, but I have to say Jim in Bake off the musical is a big career highlight for me. I love playing him and as you can tell I’m just obsessed with the show.
Are you a fan of The Great British Bake Off TV show and what would your signature bake be?
I LOVE watching the tv show, it gives me warm fuzzy feelings, I just adore it. I’m terrible at baking, I would definitely be voted off on the first round, I’d try and make a Battenberg for my signature but it would be more like a BATTEREDberg.
If you had to take 3 bakes to a desert island what would you choose?
Battenberg. Tiramisu. Chocolate Fudge Cake.
