Are you enjoying the touring life? What has been your favourite venue so far?
I’m definitely enjoying being back on tour! Especially when it’s with such awesome, genuinely lovely people! We’ve done so many great venues so far, but I have to say my favourite on this tour has to be Dublin - the audiences there were incredible and I absolutely love the city, so we had a great time there!
You’ll be at The Festival Theatre in Malvern between the 25-29 July 2023. Have you been to Malvern before, if not, what are you looking forward to the most?
I’ve actually not been to Malvern before, but I’ve heard it’s a beautiful town, so I’m looking forward to seeing it myself!
It’s safe to say that Heathers has somewhat of a cult following with many audience members dressing up as characters from the show. Why do think this show resonates with so many younger audience members?
I think it resonates with so many people both older and younger for the same reason - everyone has been through high school. Everyone has felt awkward or like they don’t fit in. And our younger fans are all currently going through that same period of their lives as the characters in the show are, so it’s a show they can so easily relate to, because they can see themselves being represented on the stage.
I had the pleasure of seeing you as Wednesday Addams in the last tour of ‘The Addams Family’. How did you find playing that role?
I absolutely loved playing Wednesday! And for my next role to then be someone like Martha, who is literally the complete opposite of Wednesday, it’s such a fun contrast, especially to have played both in quite quick succession!
What is your favourite ‘Martha’ moment in the show?
I don’t want to give away too much to anyone who hasn’t seen the show, as my absolute favourite Martha moment comes right near the end and I don’t want to ruin it! But I will say what I absolutely love about Martha as a character - and that’s that she has this unshakeable optimism that no one can take away from her, no matter what they say or do to her. And even when things get quite dark for her in the show, she’s still so optimistic and hopeful about what she’s going to do - I think we could all use a little Martha-positivity in our lives!
If you could choose any musical theatre role to play, what would it be and why?
Oh this is a hard one! And to be honest it changes so regularly, I actually can’t single out just one! There are so many great shows and characters out there, I just hope I love whatever I play next as much as I’ve loved playing both Wednesday and Martha!
Why should the Malvern audiences make the trip to Westerberg High School? What can they expect from the show if they’ve not seen it before?
We’ve had such a range in our audiences on tour so far, from people who are massive fans of the show who know it super well, to people who know absolutely nothing about what they’re about to watch, and by the end of the show (from what I can tell from the stage!) they’ve all had a great time! It’s a show set in a high school, and yet it’s so different to any other show of its kind. You can expect comedy, drama, murder and some absolutely incredible music - what more could you need?!
