Derren Brown : Only Human

Derren Brown : Only Human

When you see a show and told not to discuss anything that went on, I find myself wondering what I can possibly write about, however under Derren Brown’s firm instruction nothing in this review will divulge the most mind-mangling and mind-blowing night I’ve had at the theatre for a very long time! In his first visit to Birmingham Hippodrome, Derren Brown absolutely proved why he is the master of his craft and is the ultimate showman.

The world of mentalism, psychological illusion and hypnosis has always fascinated me and after seeing two different Derren Brown shows now, it still very much fascinates and astounds me in equal measure. I found myself questioning so many things during the course of the evening, with one main question “how on earth is that possible?”. Walking out of the theatre amongst a sea of faces of disbelief and amazement cemented why I instantly thought “I have to see this again”, I think purely to see how a different evening would compare, just out of sheer curiosity.

The production value of the show is evident, but again no spoilers will be given about how this is achieved or displayed throughout the evening. I’m sure if you’ve been to a Derren Brown show before you’ll know that audience participation is front and centre, and any person within the auditorium could find themselves one of the stars of the show.

The mind is a wonderful and powerful tool and Derren Brown has that incredible ability to beautifully describe every aspect of how he sees it. Brown is so articulate, and also pretty funny too, so for a show of around 2 hours 10 minutes it’s an art in itself to keep an audience engaged and he does it to the point where you don’t want the show to end.

The thought at the front of my mind after seeing the show is please book a ticket! If you’re not totally convinced about the art form I would wholeheartedly tell you to take a chance, you’ll come out with a completely different view point. The artistry, the delivery and the sheer brilliance is the reason that Derren Brown deserves his place on stage!

This show was reviewed on Tuesday 2nd June 2026 at Birmingham Hippodrome where it runs until the 13th June 2026. Tickets available here: Derren Brown: Only Human – Birmingham Hippodrome
